Julius Kapembwa holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Reading. His research centres on wildlife rights and human obligations to animals, developed through an interest theory of rights and a Hohfeldian analytical framework, a deliberate departure from Regan's inherent value approach. Julius is a 2025 Senior Fellow at the Centre for Animal Ethics of Pompeu Fabra University, Spain. He has been a visiting speaker or conference presenter at the University of Nairobi, Pompeu Fabre University, University of Salamanca, University of Granada, Complutense University of Madrid, University of the Basque Country, and University of Santiago de Compostella. He has also presented his work at conferences at the University of Leeds and University of Manchester (MANCEPT). He is a founding member of the London-based charity, Animals in the Room and a member of the Lusaka Animal Welfare Society executive committee.
